Description
Plot Summary
A Passage to India explores the complex dynamics between the British colonizers and the Indian population during the British Raj. The story follows:
- Dr. Aziz, a young Indian Muslim physician
- Cyril Fielding, a liberal-minded British school principal
- Adela Quested, a young British woman visiting India
- Mrs. Moore, an elderly British lady and mother to a colonial official
When Adela falsely accuses Dr. Aziz of assaulting her in the Marabar Caves, tensions between the British and Indians explode. The trial becomes a symbol of colonial injustice and racial prejudice. Eventually, Adela retracts her accusation, but the damage is done — the fragile friendships among the characters are forever altered.
